recreationDescription Hiking and Equestrian Come tackle five miles worth of adventure trails. The paths are composed of old ranch roads that are large and clear enough for hiking and equestrian use. Enjoy Lakeview Trail as it etches the outer most part of the park along the shoreline. Master the heights of Dagger Trail and rest at its peak while you gander from the pinnacle of its hilltop view. The paths are ideal for all levels of hiking as they are interconnected with varying lengths and challenges. Kayaking and Swimming Crystal clear and cool to the touch, the water is adorned with sandbars and gentle waves that are perfect for a day of kayaking and swimming. Come launch your craft and let the soft current drift you eastward towards Mansfield Dam. Be sure to wear a personal floatation device! Fishing At Shaffer Bend you can dig your toes in the sand while you let sun cascade across the sky and reel ashore white bass, catfish, crappie, and striped bass. Boulder formations are clustered sporadically amongst the shoreline and harbor the ideal havens for swarms of catchable fish. Bird Watching Relaxation has never sounded so sweet than the pleasant chorus of the Central Texas birds. Numerous species are indigenous to the region: swallows, cardinals, beautiful hummingbirds, and warblers. Amongst them is the ever evanescing species of golden cheeked warbler, currently on the endangered list. Due to the influx of agriculture, subdivisions, and the commercialization of Central Texas, the warbler has lost much of its natural habitat. LCRA proudly stands behind its efforts to sustain the natural dwelling conditions, for golden cheeked warbler, necessary to harbor a haven that's safe for potential repopulation of their species.
